Heart dissection procedure during post-mortem investigation

Overview: This series of educational illustrations depict the last step of the heart dissection during an autopsy: the dissection of the atrioventricular valve system. This particular part of the dissection involves very specific and complicated incisions that are challenging to explain to pathologists in training. Video footage is often unclear and messy. Illustrations are useful for distilling information and removing distracting details. We created these handouts to provide the students with a clear visual guide.

Client: Department of Forensic Medicine at University Hospital Leuven.
