What Is Bullous Pemphigoid?
Bullous pemphigoid is an autoimmune skin condition in which the body’s immune system mistakenly attacks proteins that help anchor the outer layer of skin, the epidermis, to the layer beneath it. This misdirected immune attack weakens the connection between skin layers, allowing fluid to accumulate and form the large, tense blisters that give the condition its name.1
