Psoriasis
Overview
Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that causes skin cells to build up rapidly, forming thick, scaly patches. It’s one of the most common autoimmune skin conditions, affecting people of all ages, and can range from a few small patches to widespread involvement.
Symptoms
Common symptoms include raised, red patches covered with a silvery-white scale, often on the elbows, knees, scalp, and lower back.
Affected skin can be itchy, sore, or prone to cracking and bleeding, and in some patients, psoriasis is also accompanied by joint pain and swelling (psoriatic arthritis).
Causes
Psoriasis occurs when the immune system sends faulty signals that speed up the skin cell life cycle, causing cells to build up on the surface faster than they can be shed. This overproduction leads to the characteristic thick, scaly patches.

Complications
