Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) conference banner mockup by Biotic Artlab

Overview

We collaborated with a healthcare communications agency to create this large scale infographic banner to be featured at an annual obstetric and gynecologic care conference. The final pharmaceutical client would be presenting on the topic of hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN), a blood disorder that cause a baby’s red bloods cells to break down rapidly.

What is a “hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn”?

HDFN occurs as a result of the mother’s immune system attacking the blood cells of the fetus while still in the womb. One cause is the mixing of the mother and baby’s different blood types during pregnancy or delivery. In addition, a traumatic experience can also cause the mixing of their blood. This triggers the mother’s antibodies to attack the fetal RBCs – this process is known as maternal alloimmunization. Symptoms for the fetus and newborn can be severe anemia, jaundice, congestive heart failure and even death.
