Moyamoya Disease Treatment

Overview
We developed a patient education animation to explain Moyamoya disease, addressing common gaps in understanding around stroke risk, disease progression, and surgical treatment.
The video uses 2D medical animation to show how narrowing cerebral arteries restrict blood flow, which causes the formation of fragile collateral vessels. Ultimately, vascularization surgery is required to restore healthy circulation. The project was designed to support neurologists and neurosurgeons in patient consultations, helping patients and families better understand diagnosis, treatment options, and long-term care.

What is Moyamoya disease?
Moyamoya disease is a rare, progressive cerebrovascular disorder that causes narrowing and blockage of the major arteries supplying blood to the brain. As these arteries constrict, the brain forms a network of small, fragile collateral vessels to compensate, increasing the risk of stroke, transient ischemic attacks, brain hemorrhage, and seizures.
Moyamoya can affect both children and adults and is commonly treated with surgical revascularization to restore healthy cerebral blood flow and reduce long-term neurological complications.
